Principal’s Message
Barrett Principal
Ms. Mary Alice Callahan
Barrett’s mission is to build a happy community of learners who are motivated, successful and challenged. We believe kindness, respect and student agency are the foundations upon which our school is built. We recognize and embrace individual differences and promote personal potential in all of our learners. Celebrating a collaborative climate and supporting a safe school environment for all provides the positive atmosphere that is pervasive on our campus.
Barrett teachers and paraprofessionals are dedicated, hard-working, and talented educators. They believe in being life-long learners themselves. The staff works in partnership with their colleagues to enrich their delivery of standards-based instruction through various forms of professional development. Our professional learning community goals focus on designing reading and writing instruction that promotes highly proficient and fluent readers and writers. In math, we focus on developing mathematical fluency and highly developed mathematical reasoning skills in all of our students. Our goal is to share our own passion for these core foundational skills so that all students can find that which brings them joy and study it further, knowing they have the tools to
do so.
Barrett students are amazing and beautiful in their diversity. Barrett students love to lead and have created clubs for lunchtime fun. They have worked with the Santa Clara Public Health Department to learn non-competitive games and then taught them to their peers at lunch. They love soccer with the El Toro coaches. Additionally, each grade level puts on a performance for the school and one for their parents. Within these opportunities, students’ talents shine! Barrett students are rockstars!
Barrett is much more than a neighborhood school. Our Home, School and Community Club works tirelessly to support Barrett. They plan our fundraising events that enable them to bring quality assemblies, funds for field trips and a multitude of other opportunities to our campus. We are grateful for the hours of volunteer time that they provide for our students. They are truly an amazing group of dedicated individuals who enhance the programs and activities here at Barrett. We hope you will join them!
At Barrett we also work closely with our community partners. We are supported by the Morgan Hill Public Library, the Morgan Hill Police Department, the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health, Rebekkah’s Children Center, Community Solutions and the YMCA. These partners help us explore the public library, read to our students, provide nutrition classes, offer counseling services and parent classes, and run our after-school program. You will see them at most of our evening events. You will enjoy meeting them at our events.
As the instructional leader here at Barrett I am dedicated to providing an environment that supports students, teachers and parents and guardians as partners in the educational process. I welcome all community members to become involved in supporting the education of the young minds here at Barrett. Together we can make a lasting difference and we will have fun doing it! Welcome to Barrett! Go Bengals!
